Background:

Mayfield Church of England Voluntary Controlled Middle School is a voluntary Controlled 9 to 13 age co-educational school built in a residential area in 1969. The school playing fields offer football, hockey, rugby and cricket facilities and an enclosed tennis court. A five classroom extension, with toilets, was built in 1995. A fully equipped music suite was built in 2000, and peripatetic music teachers teach daily. A new Design and Technology room was built in 2004, and two science rooms were updated in 2002 and 2004. Extra-curricular clubs include boys and girls football, rugby, athletics, art, dance, drama, music, orchestra and singing, science, ITC, geography, feeling, rowing and chess. One residential activity trip offered to each year-group per year. The school has strengths in all subjects across the curriculum with maths, science and English achieving average results in standard tests.
